Significance of Fgf-2 during Tail Regeneration in Lizards: a Review

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Among reptiles, lizards have retained remarkable power of regenerating their tails as part of their adaptation. The healing of the wound is a crucial event which differentiates the regenerating and non-regenerating tissues due to presence of signaling molecules that guide the wound for the regeneration of the lost tail. This crucial event includes signals like FGFs, especially FGF-2, and Wnt proteinsVEGF, EGF etc. FGF-2 is released by nerve endings at the AEC and might be involved in dedifferentiation of cells and formation of blastema. Cross talks between FGF-2 and other signaling molecules, during initial stages of blastema formation, lead to the pathways that regenerate the lost tail in lizards. FGF-2 is involved in reshuffling of the extracellular matrix by activating MMPs, angiogenesis, spinal cord regeneration and muscle regeneration. Inhibition of FGF-2 or its receptors before or during blastema formation hampers or stops the regeneration process.

Transcriptomic Analysis of Tail Regeneration in the Lizard Anolis carolinensis Reveals Activation of Conserved Vertebrate Developmental and Repair Mechanisms

Lizards, which are amniote vertebrates like humans, are able to lose and regenerate a functional tail. Understanding the molecular basis of this process would advance regenerative approaches in amniotes, including humans. We have carried out the first transcriptomic analysis of tail regeneration in a lizard, the green anole Anolis carolinensis, which revealed 326 differentially expressed genes ...

The regeneration blastema of lizards: an amniote model for the study of appendage replacement

Although amniotes (reptiles, including birds, and mammals) are capable of replacing certain tissues, complete appendage regeneration is rare. Perhaps the most striking example is the lizard tail. Tail loss initiates a spontaneous epimorphic (blastema-mediated) regenerative program, resulting in a fully functional but structurally non-identical replacement. Here we review lizard tail regeneratio...

Mechanisms of spinal cord injury regeneration in zebrafish: a systematic review

Objective(s):To determine the molecular and cellular mechanisms of spinal cord regeneration in zebrafish. Materials and Methods: Medical databases of PubMed and Scopus were searched with following key words: Zebrafish; spinal cord injuries; regeneration; recovery of function. The map of mechanisms was performed using Xmind software. Results: Wnt/ß-catenin signaling, L1.1, L1.2, Major vault prot...

Histologicalobservationsonthechangesinthyroidactivity in the Scincid Lizard, Mabuya Striata, during Different Phases of Tail Regeneration

Measurements of the follicle cells of the thyroid during different phases of regeneration of the tail in the scincid lizard. Mabuya striata. indicate a decrease in thyroid activity during the wound-healing phase and an increase at the end of the blastema phase.

Studies on regeneration of the lizard's tail.

SvNorsis. The present paper is concerned mainly with studies from my laboratory on regeneration of the lizard's tail. Over the past five years my students and I have focused our attention on: (1) a careful description of the histology of tail regeneration; (2) the role of neural elements (nerve and ependyma) in the initiation of regeneration; (3) the role of the ependymal epithelium in the guid...
